# Write Local quick start

## The first time

1. **Describe your writing.** Choose your main task and what matters most: balance, speed, quality, or accuracy.
2. **Check your computer.** Review available memory, free space, CPU, and detectable graphics support.
3. **Choose a model.** Read its capacity warnings, then download and start it. A short local speed trial is optional.
4. **Add writing samples.** Choose files, a folder, or public web links. Review the extracted text and import it.
5. **Make your voice.** Analyze your samples, edit the formatted guide, then choose **Approve & finish setup**.

## Every day

Open Write Local to the writing studio. Your saved model starts in the background unless you turn automatic startup off in Preferences.

Choose **Chat**, **Outline**, **Document**, or **Presentation**. Describe the audience, the idea, and the result you want. Select **Create in my voice**, review the draft, edit it, and export your work.

## Change something

Open **Preferences** for model selection, hardware checks, sources, voice editing, and startup behavior. You do not need to repeat first-time setup.

## Need help?

- If a model is too demanding, choose a smaller one.
- If one source fails, import the successful sources and inspect the failed row.
- If the model is not ready or the voice is not approved, generation remains unavailable.
- Open **Activity log** for details. Review paths and URLs before sharing logs.

See **USER-GUIDE.html** for the printable guide, or **USER-GUIDE.md** for the editable source.
