A private writing studio. Unmistakably you. Meet Write Local

LOCAL BY DESIGN. CLEAR ABOUT THE DETAILS.

Your thoughts.
Your corner of the world.

Write Local’s default AI workflow runs on your own computer. Here is what that means in practice—and where network connections still come in.

THE SIMPLE PART

Your writing does not need
a cloud model to become a draft.

The app owns a local Ollama process and its model directory. Your imported text, voice guide, and drafts live in your operating system’s application-data location.

A clear boundary
is a useful feature.

Local processing does not mean
the app never uses the internet.

01

Your writing workspace

Imported text, the voice guide, settings, and saved drafts are stored locally. The app’s default writing model runs on your computer.

02

Your model downloads

Downloading model weights uses a network connection. Some document parsing and OCR assets may also download on first use.

03

Your web imports

When you import a public web link, the app contacts that site to retrieve its content. Sites requiring login may need a manual export instead.

04

Your optional services

If you choose a Duckling conversion service, selected documents go to the configured service. That service has its own retention and access settings.

A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

Private work still
deserves good habits.

Use your computer’s protections.

The local database is not separately encrypted by Write Local. Use your operating system’s account security and disk encryption where appropriate.

Review what you share.

Source removal does not erase text already included in saved drafts or exported files. Exports go wherever you save them and follow the protections of that location.

Be thoughtful with diagnostics.

Local activity logs can include source paths, URLs, and error details. Review logs before posting or sending them to someone else.

Keep the model local.

The default engine listens on loopback. Avoid exposing a local model service to an untrusted network. Advanced connections should be configured with care.
